The latest in a line of nationwide mass shootings occurred on Saturday afternoon at an outlet mall in Texas. Last weekend, a shooter in Cleveland, Texas, committed a mass shooting there in which five people were killed.

Following a shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas that left 21 people dead (19 pupils and two teachers), gun control supporters rejoiced when Biden signed a bipartisan gun control bill.

But Biden has pleaded with Congress to do more, including outlawing assault weapons, as the nation continues to face a string of mass shootings. Biden claimed he had used up all of his executive authority following a shooting spree that left three children and three adults dead in Nashville, Tennessee, in March.

Stronger gun control measures have been demanded by both legislative Democrats and Vice President Biden, but it seems that Republicans in Congress have little desire for such regulations. Instead, the majority of Republicans in Congress have blamed mental health.

House Speaker McCarthy told reporters after the shooting at a Nashville school that he did not believe “one piece of legislation” could address mass shootings and that “we’ve got to deal with mental illness.”

In his statement, Biden singled out Republican lawmakers and accused them of doing nothing about mass shootings.

“At far too many supper tables, there are vacant seats. Republicans in Congress cannot continue to shrug off this epidemic. Tweeted prayers and thoughts are insufficient.
